West Road

What is worthy of documenting?
Exploring data has taught me that there is a richness to be found in the mundane. It is the minute, seemingly banal details that inevitably paint the most vivid picture of the past - and yet it is these details that, all too commonly, get lost.

I acutely felt the impermanence of the everyday after the sale of my childhood home - a home I impatiently waited 18 years to leave - a home I had not expected to miss, and, yet, I did. Not in the sense that I wanted to go back, but it was more that I wanted to etch my memories into stone. I didn't want to forget the pattern of the bathroom tile, the hideous bedroom carpet color, the broken banister, the ashtray of discarded keys forever on the kitchen counter...

Unable to capture what is already gone, I have now set out to capture the mundanity of the spaces I am in today.
